Officer Jeffery G. Casner

On February 2, 1985, the Berlin Police Department was shaken by the death of Officer Jeffery G. Casner. Officer Casner was struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic at an automobile accident.

The Casner Award is bestowed annually to the Officer(s) at the forefront of the department in effecting “Driving Under the Influence” arrests, in addition to providing the highest level of patrol services in their district.

Each year on the anniversary of his death the department honors Officer Casner at a graveside ceremony and the Casner Award is presented.

Officer Dave Cruickshank was the 2010 recipient of the Jeffery G. Casner award. Officer Cruickshank made 26 DUI arrests. His efforts represented 19 percent of the total DUI arrests made by the Berlin Police Department in 2010.
